Newborn Essentials: What You Actually Need

A minimalist, experience-based list for those hazy early days

Welcoming a baby doesn’t have to mean welcoming chaos.

There’s so much out there telling you what you “need” for a newborn, but truthfully? Most of it will end up collecting dust. At Little Buddha, we believe less is more. So here’s a no-fuss list of the essentials that actually made a difference in those early newborn days, curated by real parents who’ve been there.

🍼 The Actually-Useful Newborn List:

1. A few soft, breathable outfits.

Babies don’t need a whole closet. A handful of cozy, easy-to-change pieces go a long way. Our bamboo rompers are made for all-day wear, with built-in mittens and foldover feet.

2. One quality swaddle (or two).

Not ten. Just one or two that feel good to the touch and help baby feel secure. Muslin or stretchy bamboo blends are best.

3. A safe, simple sleep space.

Whether it’s a bassinet, crib, or co-sleeping setup, keep it minimal. Flat, firm surface. No frills. Peaceful sleep starts with less.

4. Diapers and wipes you trust.

You’ll try a few to find what works. That’s okay. Stock up slowly.

5. A gentle baby wash and balm.

Keep it fragrance-free and skin-friendly. No need for an entire bath-time line, one multipurpose wash and a healing balm is enough.

6. A soft carrier or wrap.

For bonding and hands-free moments. Choose what feels best for your body.

7. A support system (this matters most).

Meals dropped off. Someone to hold the baby while you shower. A friend who just checks in. Essentials aren’t always things, sometimes they’re people.

✨ That’s it. Truly.
When you strip back the noise, you realize the baby just needs you, and a few soft things to keep them comfortable. And that? You’ve already got.
